day six: oakland

my favorite meal of the day will always be brunch. i’m obsessed. and chickn and waffles is my fave. i love when restaurants make their mock meats from scratch. my biggest pet peeve is paying $20 for a meal with gardein that i can buy myself at publix or whole foods. souley vegan located in the jack london square area of oakland makes their own seitan cutlet. it’s amazing. the seitan chick n waffles ($12) will satisfy anyone’s brunch craving.


if there is biscuits and gravy on a menu, i order it. no matter what else i ordered. i grew up eating at a local diner near my childhood home and pretty much always ordered biscuits and gravy. it is on my “what would be your last meal?” menu. biscuits and gravy forever. souley vegan has the best biscuits and gravy ($6)… sausage gravy over rosemary biscuits. and they are shaped like muffins. love it.


i skipped lunch because i pigged out at brunch. i had an afternoon photo session with a client and opted for a healthy dinner with my vacation flat mate. we ventured over to shangri la vegan for some macrobiotic noms. i ordered a kombucha ($5) and the full size plate ($13.95). everything was delicious.

i seriously love macrobiotic vegan dishes. i wish florida had something like this on nights i don’t feel like cooking. my friend and i decided we prefer potala but shangri la is great if he doesn’t want to drive all the way out to albany! shangri la is down the street from his emeryville loft so it’s super convenient.


only two more days of noms. i’m sad already. and just a disclaimer: if i lived here i would not be eating every meal out at restaurants. i specifically came out to eat my feelings. ha ha. i cook 90% of my meals at home. the bay area is super convenient for me food wise though. vegan options a plenty.
